5th & 6th grade at Capitol

On Monday, March 27, fifth and sixth grade students enjoyed a trip to the Oklahoma State Capitol. The day started with a self-guided tour through the beautifully restored capitol building where our state's history is woven within the intricate details of the architecture, as well as the artwork which hangs on the walls or stands freely among those who pass through the halls. After lunch, students were invited into the office of their state senator for District 19, Senator Roland Pederson. After introductions, Pederson gave a tour of the Senate chamber and lounge. He explained how bills become laws and his part in the process. Students were given the opportunity to sit in as the senate conducted business, which included the introduction of a few important guests, including Sterling Stewart, a Junior at Burlington who is paging for Senator Pederson this week and the Burlington fifth and sixth graders!
